PRODUCTIVITY THE HUMAN SIDE

When we hear the word “productivity” we usually think of return on investment, or the yield in units per machine hour, or an entire economy’s output for the amount of resources invested in its capi- tal structure. But behind each of these concepts of productivity are the people— whether workers, supervisors, or manag- ers-who perform the acts that generate productive results. Often overlooked but ever present, it is people— not machines or various other forms of capital-that get the work done.
